Albums of 2009

So, there are only a few weeks left in 2009, meaning its time to get started on the list of Essential Albums of 2009 list. I have a bunch of stuff to sort through, but I’m almost certain that I missed something, and not everything I listen to gets reviewed here on the site. At the end of this page is a list of all the albums I heard in 2009. Is something you loved not on this list? Drop a comment and tell me about it! It doesn’t matter if it’s something that I’d normally listen to. If you liked it, that’s enough recommendation for me. Your thoughts on favorite, least favorite, etc. are all welcome here, and I’ll be updating this list as I continue to hear new stuff. Have at, people!

  1. You might check out “Halestorm” by Halestorm. Super talented band and better yet, super nice people!

  2. There have been loads of great albums this year, imo, but here’s a sampling of releases that I’ve really enjoyed:

‘Lungs’ by Florence + the Machine
‘Blue Lights on the Runway’ – Bell X1
‘These Four Walls’ by We Were Promised Jetpacks
    ‘Stages’ by Vedera
‘Wild Young Hearts’ by the Noisettes
‘Baby Darling Dollface Honey’ – by Band of Skulls
‘Rearrange Beds’ – An Horse (I BELIEVE it was released in 2009 in this country)

  3. I’d have to add the following albums to your radar:

Modest Mouse – No One’s First and You’re Next EP
    Flaming Lips – Embryonic
    Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
    Blue Roses – Blue Roses
    Dirty Projectors – Bitte Orca
    Dinosaur Jr. – Farm

Phoenix in particular is a brilliant sleeper band. I bought their album on a whim and it is in constant rotation.

  4. Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lynatic Asylum
from GB, sounds partly like IndieDance (with instruments!) version of Morricone

Portugal. The Man – the satanic satanist
from Portland, OR; former Alaska. Every album of them establishes a new style, they deserve fame

…And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead – the century of self
from Texas – they already achieved fame. this album again reaches the dimensions of “worlds apart”

  5. Thanks for the shoutout!

    -D
    TBH

  6. You should certainly not miss One Without – Thoughts of a Secluded Mind

    Cheers!
