Foo Fighters, Panic! at the Disco offer clips of new music

Edit 01/18 1:31 PM: See below.

Today saw two bands with highly anticipated albums due for release in 2011 tease fans with new music.

First, the newly re-exclamation pointed Panic! At The Disco offered up a thirty second clip of “The Ballad of Mona Lisa”, from their upcoming third album. Check it out below:

The song, the first song written by Panic! frontman Brendon Urie, comes from Vices and Virtues, due out March 8 March 29 [Release Date Fail - Ed.]. It’ll be the band’s first full release since the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker. As you might expect given those departures, the song sounds much more like the pop-punk that made the band’s debut A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out a smash hit. The thing is, it’s not 2007 anymore, and I’m far from convinced that “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” will make much of an impression outside of Panic!s remaining fans.

Then there’s the Foo Fighters, who offered 28 seconds of an as-far-as-we-know untitled song, whose only lyrics were “These are my famous last words”. To hear this clip, you’re going to need to head to the Foos website. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

So it seems like Dave Grohl really wasn’t kidding when he called the band’s eighth album their hardest, rockiest one yet. I don’t need a lot to get excited about new Foo Fighters, but damn if this didn’t leave me chomping at the bit for a full song, a release date, a single announcement…something.

What say the commenters about these clips? Which full record are you more excited to hear? Go forth and speculate!
