Earlier this week Pearl Jam released the music video for a live performance of “Amongst the Waves”, taken from one of the band’s performances at the now-defunct Wachovia Spectrum here in Philadelphia. If you look at the title of the song and think that Pearl Jam wouldn’t take this opportunity to give comment to the turmoil in the Gulf, well, then you don’t know Pearl Jam.
The link at the end of the video shows an embed of the video, and announces that proceeds from the video’s iTunes sales will go to Conservation International’s Marine Programs, and also provides information about the state of our oceans and what the everyman can do to help. As commentary from Pearl Jam goes, this one’s pretty middle of the road (“Tell me, Mr. Vedder, what are your thoughts on puppies and the sound of children laughing?”), but it didn’t need to be, nor should it have been, anything else.
