Incubus lead singer Brandon Boyd has been quietly working on a solo album while his primary act takes some well-deserved time off. Earlier this month Boyd confirmed that a solo album, entitled The Wild Trapeze, was in the works, and now multiple sites are confirming a release date of July 6. Yes, that’s July 6, 2010, more accurately known as this Tuesday. Yesterday Boyd debuted the video for “Runaway Train”, the first song released from the album.
The most striking thing about this in my mind is how quick a Brandon Boyd solo album went from being nonexistent to a week away from release. A quick search seems to suggest that the only solid evidence that Boyd was recording sans Incubus came at the beginning of June, and this time last year Boyd was reported as saying that solo work wasn’t really on his radar. So for this come so quickly and with almost no fanfare up to this point is surprising, to say the least.
The Wild Trapeze is out next Tuesday. Be sure to snag a copy of it then, if not sooner.
