New Rule: The Gallagher Brothers Must Fight to the Death
Yes, I know that the point is kind of moot now that Liam has left Oasis and the band is now defunct. But I still feel that the sibling rivalry needs to be settled once and for all. And while I’m on the subject, let me use this time to sum up my final thoughts on the band that was Oasis.
Meh.
Seriously. In the mid to late 90s they were good at best, and I’m pretty sure the band had reached zombie status sometime around Don’t Believe the Truth. Dig Out Your Soul left an alright first impression on me, until I went back and heard their first three records and realized there was barely any difference. Definitely Maybe is a kinda cool record is you can get through the jumblefuck of guitars and hear the actual songs and melodies beneath them. Certainly songs like “Live Forever” justify the band’s continued existence in the consciousness, but to suggest that this album belongs in the Top 20 of ANY “Best of” list is just plain foolishness. Truly, I feel like watching the brothers Gallagher fight was more interesting and unpredictable than Oasis’ music.

damn you TJ. you enjoy Miley Cyrus but don’t like Definitely Maybe. I just don’t understand you sometimes.
oh well, I always had a soft spot for Oasis.
For most bands, it would be their greatest achievement if they released an ‘average’ Oasis record such as ‘Standing on the shoulders of giants’. Definitely Maybe reshaped the UK music scene in the 90’s – it was the album everyone wanted, the album that everyone lived by. A masterpiece!
Great site you have here – I’ve added you to my list of links on my own site (atrackaday), and will be checking back often!
