Tuesday Night Roundup: New Music Plus A Shocking Confession

OK, so have you ever found yourself listening to a song, bopping along to it, enjoying it sufficiently and considering buying/pirating it once you find out who its performed by? And then you realize what it is you’ve been enjoying and who sings it, and you suddenly feel ill and want to chop off your ears so you can never make that mistake again? My friends, that’s the situation I found myself in not too long ago, and I’m a little bit ashamed to tell you what the song in question was. OK, here goes…

Miley Cyrus – Party in the USA [iTunes] (YSI)

I know, I know. I’m as embarrassed and disappointed as you all are. But alas, that opening guitar bit is so damned catchy, and while the line about Ms. Cyrus “moving her hips like yeah” is both a dumb line and mildly inappropriate, the chorus is too much fun, and I can’t help but a feel a bit happy when I hear the song. So yes, judge me all you want.

And now that I’ve burned off all the credibility I had left, I feel less guilty about posting “Rain”, the second single from Creed’s comeback album Full Circle. It might just be me, but I think the guitars are turned up too high, and the track as a whole reminds me too much of “One Last Breath”, one of the last unkillable singles before their breakup. But alas, I’m still looking forward to hearing this album.

Creed – Rain [iTunes] (YSI)

Also coming out with an album this month are The Swell Season, better known as Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova of the movie Once. Strict Joy comes out October 27th, and a track from the album is below.

The Swell Season – Low Rising [iTunes] (YSI)

And that’s all for tonight. I’m a week behind on Fringe and need to play catch-up, so pardon the shortened TNR tonight.

  1. i ‘get what your saying about liking a song until you find out who its by… but Miley Cirus.
Honestly, Ive hated that song from day one. its awful, painful and complete trash.

sorry man, but your taste in music sucks.

    • If you’re judging my music tastes on this post, than while I’m a fool for presenting this side, you’re not much better for not doing your homework. Look at the other stuff I’ve posted, and then judge me.

  2. Don’t feel too bad, the same thing happened to me with Party In The U.S.A. The first time I heard it I didn’t like it, the second time it was bearable, the third it was catchy, and the fourth it was love. So lame and so awesome at the same time. haha

  3. that is simply terrible.

  4. Yeah, nah, gotta throw my voice in with what seems like the consensus chorus: this song is terrible. I’d only heard the mashup (you’ve heard it…right?!) but now that I hear her original…it’s no good.

  5. I’m well aware of the fact that it’s not a good song. Were it not for the Black Eyed Peas, this would be a frontrunner for Worst Song of 2009, but God Damn It, it caught me at the right moment and now I can’t get it out of my brain. I’m off to go work to clear it out with some Pearl Jam and Paramore.

  6. You guys seriously don’t like that song? it’s cool. plus, it’s just about the second most popular here.
