Welcome all, once again to the Tuesday Night Roundup. This week, a new single from a band everyone loves to hate, some bootlegs and freebies from around the interwebs, and our first glimpse at what music 2010 will offer us.
=So, I know everyone hates 30 Seconds to Mars, but like with so many artists before them, I’m standing beside them. 30 Seconds to Mars got big just before bands with a celebrity for a frontman became uncool, so really I think they’re a victim of bad timing. Jared Leto may be a pretentious jerkoff, and what I’ve read so far about their new album indicates that’s probably true, but dude’s talented, and no pretentiousness can really take that away. Anywho, earlier this evening 30 Seconds to Mars debuted “Kings and Queens” the first single from This Is War, now scheduled for a December 8th release. The song is huge, anthemic, and aspires to the same heights as the last two 30STM albums, but feels light on substance. Hear it for yourself below:

=For the last several weeks Popdose (with the help of Addicted to Vinyl) have been posting tracks from the Y100 Sonic Sessions collections. Anyone who’s lived in the Philadelphia region appreciates what Y100 meant to the region, but for everyone else, WPLY-FM in Philly was the premier alternative rock station in the 90s and the first half of the 2000s, till it flipped formats to hip-hop in 2004. The Sonic Session discs were comprised of live in-studio performances and sold every Thanksgiving, with the proceeds going to charity. The discs now go for as much as $30, but Popdose is so kindly putting them up in MP3 format for your enjoyment. Here’s a choice cut from one of the collections:

=Abreaction is a solo singer-songwriter currently based out of Chicago who started out as a fairly serviceable Dashboard Confessional clone, and has since evolved into something far more abstract and experimental. And now, he’s giving away all of his albums for free on his website. If you only take one, I’d go with Recovery, his earliest, and a favorite track is below.
=And finally, earlier this month Vampire Weekend released details of their next studio album. Contra is slated for release on January 12, 2010, and for a brief period of time the band made first single “Horchata” available as a free download. I’m not the biggest Vampire Weekend fan, and am probably not the best person to review the song, but you can hear it for yourself right here:

That’ll be all for tonight. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m a week behind on Fringe and need to look to this problem.
