Tuesday Night Roundup: Death Cab For Cutie, AFI, Bruce Springsteen, and then some

WELCOME to all readers coming here via NME! Take a look around, and if you like what you see/read, won’t you bookmark, thumbs-up, or otherwise tell others about us? And of course, feel free to come back. Plenty more where this came from. Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome one and all to the newest installment of Tuesday Night Roundup, in which I continue to avoid doing work related to my studies and instead update you on the goings-on of the music world!

=Last week Death Cab for Cutie unveiled their new song “Meet Me on the Equinox”, which doubles as the lead single for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Likewise, the complete track listing was unveiled for the film’s soundtrack, and while I won’t bore you with all the details, it includes Thom Yorke (as previously speculated), Muse, Lykke Li, Bon Iver, and a ton of other high-profile indie artists. Now, I’m not a soulless record exec, but if I were, I’d be firing someone for letting this go through. See, the only thing that soulless record executives love more than selling two million albums is selling three million albums. Look at that list of artists, and compare it to who was on the soundtrack for the first film (Paramore, Linkin Park, Mutemath, Collective Soul). Do you really think that the scores of blind Twilight fans are going to be enough to propel this into multiplatinum land (especially with a weak single like “Equinox” leading the charge)?

Wait, what am I saying? Did I really just challenge the Twilight fans to prove me wrong? Oh dear God, forget everything I typed in the last paragraph.

=AFI is now streaming their new album Crash Love from their MySpace page. This also means that the album has for all intents and purposes leaked, but I didn’t post a leak alert on it as I usually reserve that for higher quality leaks. But regardless it’s out there, and here lies the first single from the record.

=Speaking of MySpace, Dashboard Confessional is currently using theirs to stream the first single from November’s Alter the Ending. “Belle of the Boulevard” feels closer in spirit to the music of The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most, only less overtly whiny and self-absorbed. So, in other words, it does nothing but raise my level of excitement for the new album. There’s been no announcement of a digital release date for the single, but expect it in the near future.

=Apparently if I had had a little bit more foresight, I would have held my week of Bruce Springsteen posts off until this week, since Wednesday marks his 60th birthday! I guess I’m just ahead of the times (or I’m not paying attention, could go either way). At any rate, you can catch all things Springsteen on this site here, so go re-read last week’s Album A Day, and share your favorite memory of The Boss!

That’s it for me tonight. Now I’m off to do legitimate things with my time.

  1. I’d be willing to bet you that the second soundtrack moves more units than the first did. Even without looking at how many Twilight did. Count it.

  2. I”d be willing to bet not everyone is astsilly as the idiot who wrote this and actually appear to believe that Linkin Park and Paramore are better bands than Muse or Radiohead. Thats just wrong.

    • I’d be willing to bet you didn’t even fucking read what I wrote. I never said that LP and Paramore are better bands; I essentially said they’re more bankable. Radiohead and Muse have had minimal Top 40 success and just by nature of their fanbase, they aren’t going to sell as many albums as quickly as Paramore and Linkin Park, who have had viable chart success and significant commercial success. I’m not going to go digging for exact sales figures, but I’m willing to bet that in the last 5 years or so, LP + Paramore have sold more than Radiohead and Muse. In most cases, Radiohead and Muse make better music, but if I’m looking to sell albums quickly and on a wide scale, they aren’t the first names to come to mind

In closing, don’t put words in my mouth. Asshole.
