Tuesday Night Roundup: Foo Fighters, 30 Seconds to Mars, and More

Welcome to another new and (maybe) continuing segment on Viva La Mainstream entitled Tuesday Night Roundup. This segment is born from the fact that I work from 10PM to 2AM in my college’s library, and I decided that this period of time is perfect for catching up on ideas for posts that fall through the cracks. So let’s begin, shall we?

=Today the Foo Fighters debuted a snippet of “Wheels” one of the two new songs that will be on their forthcoming Greatest Hits album, out November 3rd. The track will debut in its entirety on radio (and possibly digital outlets) next Tuesday. “Wheels” made its world premiere over the summer when the Foo played it at the White House over 4th of July (Reason #746 why I voted for Obama: Dude’s a Foo Fighters fan).

=In other Dave Grohl related news, Amazon’s UK site is listing an October 4th release date for the debut album of Them Crooked Vultures. Amazon.co.uk is the only site listing it, so it could very well be a fake (I’m pretty sure Amazon.co.uk also listed several premature release dates for Chinese Democracy), but still worth getting excited about. And if you’ve been living under a rock for a few months, TCV also announced their first North American tour. Pretty sure most of the dates are sold out, but check out the complete list of dates here.

=After four years, 30 Seconds to Mars are finally releasing their third studio album This Is War on November 24th (that’s a month later than the previously announced October 20th). Taking the whole interaction between artist and fan to almost gimmicky levels, This Is War will have 2,000 different album covers, all images of the band submitted by fans. First single “Kings and Queens” is said to be headed to radio early next month, and the track listing was finalized sometime last week:

  1. “Escape”
  2. “Night of the Hunter”
  3. “Kings and Queens”
  4. “This Is War”
  5. “100 Suns”
  6. “Hurricane” (ft. Kanye West)
  7. “Closer to the Edge”
  8. “A Call to Arms”
  9. “Search & Destroy”
  10. “Alibi”
  11. “Stranger in a Strange Land”
  12. “Equinox”

Many fans of the band have begun decrying the guest appearance of Kanye West on “Hurricane”, but its a track that Leto has spoken highly of, and I’m willing to buy it. Memo to 30 Seconds to Mars fans: rap is music too. Get over it.

=Weezer released the album artwork for Raditude, their upcoming studio album and it’s…it’s…well, it’s very Weezer-like.

=Dashboard Confessional will release Alter The Ending, their sixth studio album, on November 10th. Reports vary as to whether or not the release will be a double album, while on his twitter Chris Carrabba said the album would be “1 disc + something cool”. As to when new music will emerge Carrabba has been mum, saying only “soon”. I don’t care how much it makes me sound like a 14-year-old girl, I will never stop getting excited for new Dashboard.

=So I know it’s been a few weeks since Michael Jackson’s death was ruled a homicide, but I need to know. Did society just decide that Michael Jackson jokes were no longer in good taste, was I not paying attention, or did we all miss the goldmine of jokes about him getting struck by a “Smooth Criminal”? *rim shot*

…and that’s my exit cue. G’night everybody!

  1. Hi there,
Nice site, I just stumbled upon it and I am already a fan.

  2. The offer of praise is a relatively inexpensive means of payment; fame is a cheap date for the fans, so to speak. ,

  3. I’ll spare you the starry-eyed details, but suffice it to say, something deep within me shifted one day that summer. ,
