Late last night the incredibly anticipated remastered edition of the complete Beatles discography leaked ahead of their September 9th release date. Since there’s been a lot of talk about what these new remasters will sound like compared to the last update to the catalog back in the early ’90s, I decided to let you guys hear for yourselves. Only real hardcore audiophiles (or just people who really like The Beatles) will really pick up the subtle changes in sound, but even just listening to the old and new versions of favorites like “Let it Be” or “Eleanor Rigby”, among others, it’s obvious that the updated editions have plenty to offer for anyone familiar with the Fab Four’s music. Below are “before” and “after” versions of two Beatles classics so you can hear for yourself.

The remastered versions of The Beatles’ albums come out this Tuesday. Once I have $60 bucks or so to burn on music again, it’s going straight to these, methinks.

Listening to just the first 1:30 of each version of “Let It Be,” what I hear is that the piano sounds much richer, less tinny, on the new version and that the cymbals are clearer and less “muddy”. Also, when the bass first comes in, it is stronger and more “upfront” than in the original.
