Album A Day: Our Lady Peace – Clumsy

Artist: Our Lady Peace
Album: Clumsy
Release Date: April 2, 1997

The Our Lady Peace of this album and the one of Gravity (which I covered not too long ago) are two completely different beings. Clumsy sounds like it showed up about 30 minutes too late to the grunge party, just getting ready to live it up while everyone else is about to pack it in for the night. Raine Maida pours on the twisted circus theme like its his job, and provided that you aren’t familiar with the dozen bands who have paved this road before, it can actually be a fairly enjoyable affair. Personally I think this sound is a bit too jarring for my tastes (some would say that’s the point) and prefer the refined attitude of Gravity and last month’s Burn Burn, but this album has plenty to offer it if you’re looking for an escape from the 90s Cobain worship but aren’t quite ready to dip your heels into the self-indulgent angst rock of Linkin Park just yet.
