Artist: Led Zeppelin
Album: Led Zeppelin II
Release Date: October 22, 1969
I’ve been slowly making my way through the entire catalog of Led Zeppelin (a huge task, I know) in the order in which they were recorded/released. Obviously I’m only two albums in, but so far I’m feeling like Led Zeppelin II is my favorite album. I don’t know what the rest of the band’s catalog sounds like, but this is a truly terrific set of songs. It’s not totally uncommon for there to be an album with a significant amount of singles or good songs. But Led Zeppelin II has a small army of classic songs. Tracks like the instrumental “Moby Dick” (with the unparalleled drum solo from the late John Bonham), the Lord of the Rings-inspired “Ramble On” and the bluesy introduction of “Whole Lotta Love” are sheer brilliance. Eventually I’ll get around to covering the rest of Zep’s body of work, and maybe one of those will top this one, but for now I’m going to keep coming back for more of this one.

You write a music blog and have only heard the first two zeppelin albums. WHAT? How old are you? Your education is seriously deficient for someone opining about music. Better play catch-up and fast!
OK, so to clarify, because what I wrote sounds more blasphemous than it is. I’ve only listened to the first two Zeppelin albums front to back. I have their complete catalog and it gets regular play on both iTunes and my iPod. So I am quite familiar with the band’s music, but not as familiar with said music in the album form it originated in.

Great site…keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,
A definite great read…:)
