In just about 8 hours somewhere between 500 and 800 (no one’s quite sure of the exact number) new college students are going to finish a journey of varying distances and lengths from their old lives to their lives as college students at Arcadia University, just outside Philadelphia. I, along with about 100 other current students are tasked with making the aforementioned multitude of new college students feel welcome, comfortable and ready to succeed. This process actually probably takes a couple of weeks at least, but my portion of the process started way back in May and ends next Tuesday. The next five days are nothing short of pure chaos. It may look organized and well planned out, but inside the mind of every student, administrator, and staff member running the show, there are tens of millions of neurons and synapses pushing hundreds of different thoughts, concerns, and worries through the brain. Pure chaos indeed. But at the end of those five days, once the several hundred college students who retained enough sanity to know that participating in Orientation is an exercise in madness return to campus, the “firstyears” are nearly indisinguishable amongst a crowd of their older cohorts and feel as welcome and empowered as their colleagues. At least, that’s our endgame. Pretty intense, right?
So, that’s why I’m flying under the radar for the next few weeks, and why I present to you the calming sounds of Coldplay on the evening before all hell breaks loose. Enjoy.

PS: The fact that this album came out on this date 7 years ago is pure coincidence.
