Album A Day: Foo Fighters – Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace

Apologies for the lateness, but suffice it to say, seeing District 9 was well worth it.

Artist: Foo Fighters
Album: Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace
Release Date: September 25, 2007

Behold, my favorite Foo Fighters album, and probably one of my favorite albums recorded in my lifetime. Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace wastes little time for introductions and pleasantries, allowing the ferocity of “The Pretender” to get the ball rolling on a balanced, exciting album from start to finish. The Foo found a way to combine the two decidedly different sounds of In Your Honor and make them coexist in the same space, with the pure rocking fun of “Cheer Up Boys, Your Makeup Is Running” sharing space with the subdued instrumental “The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners”. Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace is what can happen when the Foo Fighters have all the guns firing, and the result is their best album since The Colour and the Shape. Sure, moments like the droning closer “Home” fall well short of the bar set by the classic “Long Road to Ruin”, but these small errors are a small price to pay for the sheer amount of excellence that the band achieves.

I know this one’s kind of short. I’ll make it up to you later today, promise.
