Album A Day: My Chemical Romance – Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge

For those who might be wondering, the selections for my Album A Day are completely and totally arbitrary. If you were about to go looking for the connection between Pearl Jam and My Chemical Romance, you can stop (there probably isn’t one). But that leads to a question; would this project be more interesting to you, the reader, if I did start trying to link one to the next?

My favorite memory of anything from this album comes from junior year of high school. My friend Kevin and I were chilling out up in his room, being our normal restless selves. We had music going on in the background, but it wasn’t anything memorable. Eventually Kevin turned to the stereo and put Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge in the system. Opening track and hit single “Helena” came on. Kevin grabs a broomstick or something to that effect and starts air-guitaring to the intro. After a few seconds, I turn a Snapple bottle into a microphone, and the two of us are off to the races. The ensuing three minutes are laden with energetic, heart-pounding airbanding, so intense that even the most passionate Guitar Hero player would blush. It was just one of those events in the life of a teenager that showed how much music can impact any moment in time.

Oh yeah, the rest of this album is pretty awesome too.
